Irish Teachers Union Votes to Boycott Academic Cooperation with Israel

On April 4, 2013, the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) voted to boycott all academic collaboration with Israel, including research programs and exchange of scientists. The union called on the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to intensify its campaign for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel, which it branded an "apartheid state.” The TUI represents teachers and lecturers working in all levels of education across the country and has more than 14,500 members. It is thought to be the first full academic boycott enforced by a European teaching union.
